Artist Statement

This series of works is inspired by the practice of decorating one's home with hunting trophies, and the idea that the kind of animal that can be subdued and displayed is symbolic of the hunter’s character. Hunters often speak of their prey as beautiful and noble, exhibiting their regard for nature by nailing it to the den wall. With these pieces I am trying to question the emblematic and psychological roles we assign to animals; the way we regard some animals as noble or ornamental, and others as worthless or disposable.
